The Shrewton Scarecrow Trail - 2024
Another wonderful Scarecrow Trail organised by the Friends of Shrewton School (FOSS*). This year's theme was the Olympic Games and sporty scarecrows could be found throughout our village. The WI's scarecrow can be seen pole vaulting across the River Till.
*Many thanks to FOSS for allowing us to publish their poster and photographs.
The Shrewton Scarecrow Trail - April 2023
In recognition of the forthcoming celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III, the Friends of Shrewton School (FOSS) parents association, organised a scarecrow trail. Members of the Village Matters group created a scarecrow with an uncanny resemblance to our future King as he tries to escape from the Blind House. (Many thanks to FOSS for allowing us to publish their poster). |
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Platinum Jubilee - June 2022
The national celebrations to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, took place during June 2022.
To commemorate Her Majesty's Jubilee, Shrewton & District WI decided to plant a tree but the Summer was not a good time as most of the country was in a state of drought. The tree, a flowering cherry 'Pink Perfection', was ordered and plans were made to do the planting at a later date.
Tuesday 22nd November 2022 was the day chosen and members were asked to meet on the grass at Meadway to witness Jean and Dianne carrying out the planting.
A toast was made and the tree now stands, with its plaque, as a beautiful reminder of the seventy year reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II .

Commemorating the end of WW1 - November 2018
On 13th November around 20 people assembled to plant 105 trees to form the basis of the Shrewton War Memorial Copse.
There were representatives of St. Mary’s, Shrewton Royal British Legion, the WI and regulars from the Plume plus other volunteers. The first tree was planted by four generations of the Cruse family, led by great grandfather, Howard, a WW2 veteran. They were assisted by members of the Shrewton pre-school group. An Act of Remembrance and Dedication was conducted by the Rev. David Walters.
